Their story:

Caitlin started her hairdressing career with Salon 3, 8 years ago, training from being a junior to a fully qualified stylist.
Whilst working for Salon 3 she took responsibility for the in house training, keeping up to date with up and coming trends ensuring Salon 3 maintained their reputation for being in fashion whilst acting as a role model for the junior stylists.
In 2023 Caitlin made the decision to set up her own business “Blends” and despite the business only being in its infancy, already has a waiting list for potential clients.
During covid the community found a new extreme respect for the hairdressing profession which really inspired Caitlin who not only gave advice to the community on the radio , but also supplemented this with on line training sessions which grew Caitlin’s reputation and instagram following.
Throughout her career Caitlin has maintained an enthusiasm and passion to learn, always looking for opportunities to diversify and expand her knowledge and skill set whilst predicting future trends.
This was demonstrated when Caitlin got chosen from 100’s of applicants across the UK and Ireland to join a team of 6 stylists on the “Schwarzkopf Professional Young Artistic Team”, Schwarzkopf Professional is one of the leading global hair care brands. The selection process was rigorous, with judges not only evaluating the finished model looks but also considering the candidates’ knowledge, presentation skills and enthusiasm.
The Young Artistic Team represents the pinnacle of emerging talent in the hairdressing industry. The program was a year-long mentoring initiative designed to cultivate and elevate the future leaders of the industry. Part of the programme included working at London Fashion week, which Caitlin continues to support.
Caitlin took the next step in her career at the end of 2023 to open her new “Creative Space” called “Blends”.. Caitlin has created a stylish ambience in distinctive contemporary surroundings in an environment that oozes great taste and sophistication.
Caitlin’s varied and demanding client base ranging from teenagers to professional ladies have commented on the style, quality and comfort of her show case “Creative Space”.

Caitlin also uses social media to keep in touch with a network of talented hair stylists that were part of her “Schwarzkopf Young Artistic Team” as well as the judges; and providing advice to her clients.
Caitlin also continues to provide hair tutorials on instagram as well.

Core values that apply to them most:

Achievement, Entrepreneurship, Collaboration, Creativity, Innovation

How they represent these values:

Achievement-as a young stylist Caitlin’s first and only employers recognised her talent and she quickly established herself as a key member of the team.
They gave Caitlin the added responsibility for in house training with one of her other early achievements being building a large and diverse client base.
Being nominated for and being successful in gaining a place on the “Schwarzkopf Young Artistic Team”, being 1 of 6 members of the best 26 years old and under stylists across the UK and Ireland is one of the highlights of Caitlin’s career.
Caitlin followed on from this achievement by setting up her own business, the complexities of which cannot be underestimated . Caitlin attended the “Micro Business Grant Scheme” which has provided Caitlin with an invaluable insight into running a new business.
Since opening Caitlin has received fantastic feedback from her clients and she is happy to provide names of clients should you wish to make contact with them.
Caitlin has made her dream become reality demonstrating determination and tenacity throughout. Doing so has increased Caitlin’s self-confidence and happiness showing that she is a valuable asset to her clients.

Entrepreneurship-Caitlin has always been a self-motivated and quietly confident young lady and it was only a matter of time before she took the next stage of setting up her own business.
Caitlin demonstrated business acumen and vision by patiently waiting for the right business premises to become available in the right location which is key for the convenience and accessibility of her clients.
She prepared a comprehensive business plan which demonstrated her vision and projected forward potential earnings and costs to ensure her vision was a viable and profitable option-to date she has exceeded all her expectations.
She has transferred her vision into reality and is now fast establishing herself as a leading example of a local successful young entrepreneur who is becoming a role model inside and outside of her profession.

Collaboration-to be a successful entrepreneur you need to consistently demonstrate integrity by having strong principles and values in the business environment which Caitlin does daily. The positive knock on effect of Caitlin’s integrity is her ability to successfully collaborate with individuals and organisations at all levels.
A good example of this was when Caitlin advised her employers that after 8 years of loyal service that she had decided to set up her own business. They were 100% positive and fully supported Caitlin throughout the transition of leaving Salon 3 and setting up “Blends”. They also attended the launch of Caitlin’s business and wished her well for the future.
Caitlin has also demonstrated her excellent collaboration when setting up new relationships with her suppliers, her landlord , her trades people , the Tax Authorities, her Accountant, the Department of Enterprise-in doing so forming numerous strategic alliances to accomplish the shared goal of developing a successful business.
Not forgetting the most important relationship of collaborating each day with her clients to ensure they are fully engaged and connected to form a long lasting and profitable relationship.
Caitlin demonstrates maturity beyond her years , is level headed and has already built up a number of invaluable and long lasting relationships-being fully respected by all.

Creativity and innovation-for the purposes of Caitlin’s nomination I have grouped these together. They both involve finding new and unique solutions, creativity provides the spark that leads to new ideas , whilst innovation is the process of turning those ideas into reality.
Caitlin’s unique selling point is that she approaches her profession in a unique way for her clients.
She has built up a vast portfolio of alternative styles.
The key is to communicate effectively with clients ensuring they are 100% on board with any potential changes in style whilst ensuring correct use of colour and blends to suit /match her client’s colouring.
Caitlin demonstrated her creativity when being assessed by judges in her successful live final for the “Schwarzkopf Young Artistic Team”. Under the theme of “Total Creative Freedom” Caitlin showcased her technical cutting skills and colour knowledge that reflected her artistic vision. Despite the intense competition , Caitlin “demonstrated an impressive knowledge of creativity and passion, reflecting the depth of her talent”.
Caitlin continues to develop new and original styles by undertaking extensive research, testing them on friends/volunteers. Caitlin’s creativity sets her apart from her competition and her brand differentiates her and has been a key factor to her building her loyal client base who have all followed her to her new venture.
As a young entrepreneur Caitlin demonstrates a creative mindset by being open to new ways of doing things, staying curious by constantly seeking out new information and willing to take risks(setting up her own business was a well thought out calculated risk).
You only have to visit Caitlin’s “Creative Space”, not a salon or hairdressers to see how the premises are unique from the minute you walk in the door.
The “Creative Space” is not over crowded, is not full of other stylists and equipment and excessive noise.
Caitlin’s clients enjoy a 1:1 experience with Caitlin from the minute they walk in until they walk out the door feeling special.
The premises Caitlin inherited was a tip, with holes in the floors, badly decorated walls with a strange layout. With Caitlin’s vision she has transformed the premises and created a new and unique experience for her clients who absolutely love the attention to detail and the 100% attention they receive from Caitlin with no distractions.

To summarise in my opinion Caitlin is the perfect candidate to be considered for this prestigious award.
She will face many obstacles in the future, however, I have no doubt that with her determination , resilience and family support she will overcome them to reach her future realistic and challenging goals to ensure the continued success of the business.
Caitlin offers a Platinum service, using quality products, charges competitive prices without compromising her very high standards.

Core values that apply to them most:

Achievement, Entrepreneurship, Collaboration, Sustainability, Creativity

How they represent these values:

Achievement:

Caitlin began work at Salon 3 and completed her apprenticeship .
In 2022 she entered a prestigious competition to find the best young hairdressers in the uk
After following a brief to create a mood board , she attended heats and was invited to the final in London, this involved a whole day of presentations and work on models in front of the most respected people in the industry .
Caitlin was successful and won a place on the team , what followed was a fantastic year , involving training each month at some of the best salons in the country,
working on magazine shoots with
Rankin the photographer , performing on stage at hairdressing live and working at London fashion week . ( Caitlin has since been asked back twice to work at fashion week and will be going back this September)
When the year was over Caitlin started to think about opening her salon , she attended the department of enterprise new business course , developed a business plan , began to develop a brand and searched for a premises.
The next 4 months we’re spent turning a rundown kitchen showroom into a stylish salon ,
Designing the Interior, liaising with builders, choosing furniture learning about vat and cash flow ,creating a brand all whilst working full time .
After a lot of blood sweat and tears , Blend! Opened in February 2024 ,
The first months have been a success , the clients love it , the diary is full for months and the targets are being met .
The next stage is to turn a derelict room at the back of the shop into a nail studio,
work is going well and another talented young person is renting the space and opening in June .

Entrepreneurship

Caitlin’s time in London and the experience she gained visiting different salon inspired her to think about opening her own shop , she saw an opening for a smaller salon with a relaxed vibe offering a more one to one personal service.
She began formulating a business plan with invaluable help from the dept of enterprise and her mentor , she organised a lease on a property , negotiated a rent and organised funding .
After the lease was signed she designed the interior, travelled to specialist suppliers to select furniture, organised tradesmen and researched a cost effective and energy efficient way to heat the shop and provide hot water .
There were problems along the way but she stuck with it and solutions were found .
The shop opened earlier this year and has been a resounding success, plans are in place for expansion and an area will be rented to another young business, increasing turnover.
The success of Caitlin’s venture is testament to hard work and dedication she works long hours , always puts her customers first and makes them feel special, this along with an understanding of controlling costs and negotiating the best deals on products etc makes Caitlin a great entrepreneur with an exiting future .

Collaboration

The help Caitlin has received from the department of enterprise new business scheme has been invaluable, the very informative classroom sessions have helped her understanding of vat, tax and accounting etc , and the access to a mentor has really boosted her confidence,
She has worked with a number of other businesses including, a young plumber who attended the same start up course and a new local design and branding company who have been fantastic .
Caitlin has been developing the run down rooms at the rear of the shop and has been working along with Laura who is expanding her businesses to create a fantastic space which opens in a few weeks time .

Sustainability

Caitlin cares passionately about the environment and the future of the planet
and it has been important for her to create a business that reflects those beliefs,
She has chosen Schwarzkopf has her product supplier because she knows they have a fantastic ethical policy and are committed to using recycled packaging, vegan friendly plant based ingredients and no animal testing.
The renovation of an old property created many challenges not least how to heat a shop with single glaced windows and 3 meter high ceilings and provide a constant supply of large quantities of hot water throughout the day in a cost effective and environmental friendly way .
After carrying out hours of research Caitlin decided not to use gas or oil and invested in electric infrared heating panels to heat the shop area , they are extremely efficient, heat objects and people rather than the air and work fantastic in old buildings , they have performed better than expected over the winter months .
The problem of providing litres of hot water each day was solved by installing a salon aqua flow system, which uses cheap over night electric to heat a highly insulated cylinder of water which is then regulated to provide water at a set temperature to the hair sinks so no energy is wasted .
The plan for the future is to install solar panels on the roof of the shop to provide a proportion of the electric to supply the heating and water system.

Creativity

Working back stage at the gaiety , studying photography at A level , constantly researching the latest trends and techniques ,attending training courses to improve her skills Caitlin has always been creative, and this was recognised when she won a place on the Schwarzkopf young artistic team , a search to find the most skilled , innovative and creative hairdressing talent in the country, during her time on the team she assisted at London fashion week and her particular talent was noticed and she has been invited back there a number of times .
Caitlin put her creative skills to good use designing the shop interior ,creating a brand and everyday uses these skills to make people feel good .
